Prepare root vegetables, cut into chunks. Place root vegetables in the base of a roasting tin. Sprinkle with flour, salt & peper. Add cold water to a depth of 1-2 inches. Place joint or chosen steak, chop, small portion of pork, lamb, beef or poultry on the top of the vegetables.Cover with foil and place into the oven. 400F or Gas 6 for approx 1hr and 30 mins. Remove foil for the last 5 mins to brown the meat. At the end of the cooking time the meat will be cooked along with the vegetables. Then the gravy browning can be added to the juices in the roasting tin. A one pot meal for a busy day. This family recipe was passed on from my aunt Jean & Uncle Les who lived in Devon.
